Alternatives...

I have several neighbors who SMOKE and this is so upsetting because as a new mother...i am very paranoid about everything.  Especially second hand smoke...we have all heard the stats that second hand smoking is the worse than actually smoking yourself.  So the thought that my baby will expose to this REALLY does upset me.

There are many alternatives to smoking and i so want to tell my neighbor to try some.  Chewing gum, exercising, eating their favorite popisicle...anything but smoking.  I sometimes wish people would take other people into consideration when they are smoking.  Especially other people when they are not your family member.

Anyway...i am seriously thinking about sharing my personal thoughts with this neighbor of mine?

What do you think...should i share some of these alternatives with my neighbor?
Have you ever heard of some of these alternatives?

Staying Healthy and Fit

I have a confession to make...since giving birth i have not done a good job of getting back into exercising and fitness.  It's really unfortunate but i do understand that it's going to take my body sometime to get back into gear.  Honestly i thought right after the baby...i would be able to get back into running and doing kickboxing like before.  After all, i did run a half marathon while pregnant...so of course i thought and still think i can do it all!

But i do have to give myself the time to heal and do what it's supposed to do.  After all having a baby is a pretty big ordeal on my body.  The other part of this too is that as i get older it's only going to mean i need to work harder to maintain healthy and fit.  It's NOT only about working out but eating healthy and clean and having a lifestyle that is good.

Also, if i am not healthy and fit then it will be difficult to get medicare supplemental insurance, which i have been thinking i want and need.  Of course i need something extra for myself and my newborn so that we are taken care of.

As i get older, i am reminded it's not only about being healthy and fit but ensuring i have certain things in place to maintain my health and wellness...insurance.  And I'm glad this is something i am learning.

Hospital Care...& Record Keeping...

Currently i am dealing with the hospital system since i just gave birth to my son.
The hospital i delivered my baby was definitely an awesome one.
I went to that specific hospital because that's where my friend delivered her son.
So of course i had some second hand information to know how good the hospital is.

I am not even going to try and imagine how hospitals organize all the information they have to organize.
Recently i was speaking with a friend of mine and we came across this OptimusEMR.

Come to find out,

OptimusEMR is a leader in the electronic medical records industry.  They develop software for hospitals to help organize information about patients, so other hospitals will have easily accessible information about them, and no information will be lost. You can read more about what OptimusEMR offers on their products page:

If you would like some examples of how OptimusEMR has contributed to client's success please refer to their case studies here:

When you are in the hospital, you are not thinking about whether administrators keep electronic health records but it is helpful to know that such programs exist.  I can only imagine if i had to be in the hospital for long term care, i would hope the hospital would keep an excellent record for me and my health providers.

Stronger Body...

Since having this baby...i want my body back the way it used to be.
I want it stronger and healthier...
I want to be able to return to before when my body was strong and powerful.
Right now...it's not so strong.

My body is getting stronger and stronger everyday.
The lung capacity is expanding...
I have several challenges including going to BED EARLIER...
and EATING RIGHT!
But truly this is a journey and i am getting there daily.

I cannot do bad things to my body including smoking.
I told one of my friends who is about to have her baby that once she has her baby,
she needs to stop smoking cigarettes.
As this is the only way she will get back to her stronger body.

I know it's difficult but it's something she hasn't been doing
for the last nine months and can continue to do.
I know she will get there...
We will get there together.

Comfort

Since pregnancy every part of my body has changed a great deal.
Aside from my belly stretching and stretching away to accomodate this little bundle of joy.
Other parts of my body has changed including my feet.

I am now a size eight or something like that.
I am normally a size seven so this is a big change.

And with change of feet size comes bigger shoes.
I am definitely in the process of looking for some comfortable new shoes
and i might have come across some.
I am so glad because my feet has been hurting...

I need some comfort for sure!!

And i cannot wait to feel some kind of comfort for my new mommy feet!!

San Diego

The Author of this post is Solomon Dejesus

Last year we went to a wedding in San Diego. We had not been to that part of California before, so we took a few extra days for sight seeing. The bride was my college roommate’s daughter. They had moved to California after her husband landed a wonderful job there many years ago. I had not seen her in ages, so I was really excited to see her and catch up. They lived in a town called Escondido outside San Diego. We found a great local television show on sightseeing on Direct TV. This show told us just about everything we could do around San Diego including all the details about the zoo and the beaches. I had always wanted to go to the zoo after seeing so many unusual animals on the Johnny Carson show years ago. After a beautiful outdoor wedding and a fun night visiting with my friend in Escondido, we spent some time at the beach just watching the people and enjoying the sun. We then ended our trip with a long day at the zoo.

Actos Lawsuit Explained...

My granny has had type 2 diabetes for more than twenty years and she struggles with it on a daily basis. Diabetes is definitely a chronic illness where there are high levels of sugar.
Certaintly, no one ever wants to have diabetes however when you have it, you have no choice but to find methods that work for you.  Granny wants to be healthy and we want her to be healthy.

My granny uses several methods to curb her diabetes.
Of course there are: medicines, exercise and diet control (my granny's favorite)
to control her bloog sugar and prevent further issues with other parts of her body like her feet.

One of the methods she came across to control her diabetes was Actos.
This was subscribed by her physician.
Therefore, imagine my shock when i found out on that there was an Actos Lawsuit.
WHAT?!!

It was a little disheatening when i found out that taking this type of drug for too long
can cause increased risk of bladder cancer.
Of course i didn't know how to approach this conversation
with my granny but i was thankful when i found out i could go to this website for more information:  http://www.simmonspharmalaw.com/practices-actos-lawsuits.html.

I am thankful i could share all this great information
for my granny because i know it will definitely help her in the long run.

Fighting Drug Abuse

Recently i went to a training about substance abuse. Substance abuse is real and affects the life of many people on a regular basis. One thing they said that stuck with me was that people will turn to drug abuse if they are not connected to something. Another thing that stuck with me was when they discussed different Atlanta alcohol rehab programs.

They talked about one of the important things about treatment being a focus on something else that can be stronger than alcohol.  Atlanta Drug Rehab should be a way for many people to engage others that could possibly be safe their lives Atlanta drug abuse rehab centers works because individuals are plugged into something like a fitness/health program.

There was one individual that hit rock bottom however after getting involved in working out and taking care of himself...drug usage was not as strong. All addictions are real but rehab works for those that can become invested in their health and fitness! Those that can become connected to something stronger! health and fitness is not a bad thing to be connected to.

SHELTER DOGS

I appreciate the guest post, Jamie Guy:

I should have never let my daughter watch the local channel on Direct TV Sunnyvale where they advertise all of the animals that are in the shelter.  She has been dying to get a dog.  Luckily, i have been able to steer her away from a pet, but she has gotten more set on a geting a dog lately since she has been watching all of the cute dogs at the shelter.

She just can't get enough of them.  Everyday, she wants a new one.  I personally don't want a dog because i don't think that she will be able to take care of it once the "newness" weas off.  I think that i would be the one who woudl end up having to take care of a dog if we got one.

I don't think that she realizes how much work is involved in having a pet.  You have to bathe it, feed it, and walk it everyday.  You also ahve to clean up after it, if you know what i mean!  That is a lot of work! I am going to fight the dog "wants" for as long as i can, but honestly, i don't think that i am going to be able to hold out much longer.

Scuba Gear

One of my favorite things to do during the summertime is going to the beach.  Especially after the winter blues, and the best part about going to the beach is showing off my new runner's body.

And what better way to show off my body than in a cute swimsuit from some of my favorite stores.
And they have some awesome cover ups too after coming in from the water.

One of the things i am excited about trying this summer is scuba diving.  And with this new adventure comes the gear.  I found some awesome deals for wetsuit.  They are reasonably price and well made.

I cannot wait to try my  wetsuits on when they come.  There is nothing better than having the right type of outfit on for scuba diving.  It definitely makes all the difference.  The last thing i want to be worrying about while diving is whether my suit fits properly or not.  I want to enjoy myself completely.

You should definitely check them out when you get a chance!!

Krill Oil...

I have been using fish oil for a while for my joints, skin,  and running endurance.
When taking the krilloil.com my joints feel the same as well as my endurance. My skin though has improved. My skin is less dry, and thats saying something for me. Because my skin is normally dry and gets really dry in the winter time.

I grew up on fish oil, so i know the benefits of Omega-3's. All these years though I wondered why they couldnt make the pill smaller and easier on the stomach. I heard people talking about another Omega-3 the was smaller, easier on the stomach, and had added benefits.

The good thing about Krill is that they are easier to swallow and they dont upset my stomach. This might seem minute, but if you cant swallow the pills and they mess with your stomach, the less likely you are to take fish oil and you will not get all the benefits. Some of my friends tell they eat fish often, after I tell them they should be taking fish oil.

The truth is we would need to eat around two to three pounds of fish daily to equal the amounts found in supplement form. Thats why I like the Krill pills. You can get the proper amount of EPA and DHA in one to two small pills. I remember sometimes I would skip the fish oil, just because it was too big. Beyond the obvious benefits, Krill has helped my muscle soreness.

Astaxanthin I found was naturally occuring in krill oil. I researched it, and found out it is an antioxidant that helps the protect the muscles from oxidative damage from exercising and environmental pollutants. Its benefits also include immune fighting, anti-inflammatory, and neurodegenerative diseases of the eye which was a plus.

I will be using krill oil from now and I will be able to be consistant because of the small size and its ease on the stomach.
